Eredappa Hart was one of two designers added to Couture Fashion Week on the second day of the event. Last year House of Jola was one of the group of  Nigerian designers presenting at last season's CFW. This time there were none listed as part of the original roster so it was a welcome surprise as I have come to expect a strong showing from Nigeria at CFW. Eredappa Hart is a Nigerian  born designer who studied business in England before deciding to pursue her interest in designing after returning to Nigeria in the 90's. She first started with footwear and hand bags that were sold in Paris and Italy before starting her Eredappa brand.  In 2006 she was a major stand out at ARISE magazine's "This Day" fashion show in Nigeria, and recently earned a lifetime achievement award at ARISE Magazine Fashion Week.

Eredappa's designs are rich colorful visual experiences, her use of traditional African fabrics and bold colors is combined with intricate layered beading take the eye in and out of the colorful designs. with some of the pieces the models seemed to be draped in the feathers of an exotic bird. The balance of traditional African fabrics and contemporary silhouettes have only added to her international appeal. Eredappa's inclusion in Couture Fashion Week was a great call, I look forward to seeing her designs on the runway again next season.
